Since 1995, Taipei Fine Arts Museum of Taiwan (TFAM) has been participating in the Venice Biennale on behalf of Taiwan. For over 20 years the Taiwan Pavilion has been dedicated to presenting the context and development of Taiwanese modern and contemporary arts, responding to the drastic changes in the ecology of the art world and in this highly competitive international forum of cultures.

From past experiences of producing the Taiwan Pavilion, TFAM has realized that young art professionals in Taiwan do not have the opportunity to participate in making large-scale international exhibitions. With the sponsorship of the Museum Friends Association, this year the Taiwan Pavilion is launching an ‘Art Administration Training Programme,’ offering six docent internship positions and one curatorial internship position throughout the duration of the 57th Venice Biennale. For the first time young Taiwanese art professionals passionate about promoting Taiwanese culture and learning from international exhibition experiences will have the direct access to the knowledge and experience of international exhibition making. Selected candidates will work closely with TFAM’s exhibition planning, international publicity and educational outreach sectors. TFAM will offer training programme for selected candidates, where the guest curator and the artist will give lectures on Doing Time.

Docent interns will directly interact with the audience and engage the audience with the dialogue about curatorial ideas, exhibition contexts and contents of the works. By offering tour guides during the exhibition, not only can the Taiwan Pavilion provide a more enriching experience for visitors but it also allows docent interns to take part in the front line of the museum’s work. The curatorial intern will gain in-depth knowledge from assisting TFAM, the guest curator and the artist in the process of coordinating logistics of the exhibition.
